Week 5: Journal Prompt – Introvert vs Extrovert: “How to Leverage Your Personality Type”

Week 5: Journal Prompt – Introvert vs Extrovert: “How to Leverage Your Personality Type”

You’re Just My Type

By Laurie Foley

“You need to get out and play.”

“You need to sit down and be quiet.”

Which were you told as a child?Either way, you were just a kid, being a kid. But somehow, you might have gotten the idea that something was wrong with you. The truth is more likely that you bumped into your Oppovert, a handy name I have for a person who has a personality type opposite yours. For example, if you are an introvert, then your Oppovert is an extrovert. Or vice versa.

Oppoverts are nothing but trouble when you are a kid, especially if they have it in mind to teach you to conform.

Imagine if you are right-handed and a teacher comes along and says that you should really write with your left hand—just because that’s how she does it. You could do it but it would feel totally unnatural. Oppoverts often view you with suspicion because they want you to do what is natural for them.

No wonder it takes a lifetime to unlearn our childhood.

Imagine instead a world where you encounter many, many more of your Identiverts: people who have the same preference as you for introversion or extroversion. If you are immersed in a book, they step quietly around you.

They would never interrupt you. If you’re leaving the third party of the night, they will say, “Where do you want to go next?”

This isn’t a call for homogeneous societies. No, not at all. It is simply an invitation to let go of every Oppovert experience that made you feel like you were anything less than the exotic, wildly interesting, deeply unique soul that you are.

Their Oppovert goggles may have blinded them, but that doesn’t mean that you weren’t shining. You were—and you are.

Your Prompt for This Week

Laurie Foley says:

If you had had just one advocate as a child who was your Identivert, what would have been different? What would you have continued or tried?

Lisa says: i would have become madonna around the good healthy age of 5! ahahahha!

If you had a chronic Oppovert in your life at some point, what did they often say to you?

To stay put.  To be carefull.

What is the opposite of that sentence and what would you do right now when you feel that opposite-but-true-for-you version down to your bones?

To move it! Take big risks.  Put all my eggs in one basket and plan my success party!

If you know a child who is your Identivert, what do you want to say to her?

can we be friends?

Actionable Idea for This Week

This is one of the exercises I crafted for you this week.

DO and WRITE: Describe Your Personality Type

Visit the Human Metrics website and take the free Jung Typology Test http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/JTypes2.asp to discover your Myers-Briggs personality type. Then read the description related to your personality profile.

Wow! just took this fun test.  this was shocking. my personality profile is totally coherent with my wild, energetic, creative self.  i scored a champion ENFP which is about 4 to 8 percent of the population:

heres what is says:

  • E – Extraversion preferred to introversion: ENFPs often feel motivated by their interaction with people. They tend to enjoy a wide circle of acquaintances, and they gain energy in social situations (whereas introverts expend energy).[7]
  • N – Intuition preferred to sensing: ENFPs tend to be more abstract than concrete. They focus their attention on the big picture rather than the details, and on future possibilities rather than immediate realities.[8]
  • F – Feeling preferred to thinking: ENFPs tend to value personal considerations above objective criteria. When making decisions, they often give more weight to social implications than to logic.[9
  • P – Perception preferred to judgment: ENFPs tend to withhold judgment and delay important decisions, preferring to “keep their options open” should circumstances change.
  • ENFP characteristics

    Myers-Briggs description

    ENFPs are initiators of change, keenly perceptive of possibilities. They energize and stimulate others through their contagious enthusiasm. They prefer the start-up phase of a project or relationship, and are tireless in the pursuit of new-found interests. ENFPs are able to anticipate the needs of others and to offer them needed help and appreciation. They bring zest, joy, liveliness, and fun to all aspects of their lives. They are at their best in fluid situations that allow them to express their creativity and use their charisma. They tend to idealize people, and can be disappointed when reality fails to fulfill their expectations. They are easily frustrated if a project requires a great deal of follow-up or attention to detail.

    Keirsey descriptions

    Champions delight in novelty. They are optimistic, enthusiastic, and vivacious, craving expressions of strong emotion. With a dramatic flair, they share their experiences with others, hoping to reveal some universal truth or win others over in support of a cause. Attuned to possibilities, Champions scan their environment, probing the emotions, needs, and motivations of others. This sensitivity sometimes conflicts with their intense drive for personal authenticity. Spontaneous and personable, they attract others to their company.

    cool hey! this was fun and usefull! a new perspective on ourselves is always usefull! lets open up the windows and let something new about ourselves light up the room!

heres an illuminating moment:

the mind likes to munch on problems when it gets bored.  instead when we direct our minds into sensing and

feeling our body movements, our minds quiet down and become happily and simply contented… for as we all know

movement is life.

ie. to pass the food we eat through our body for example… there is MOVEMENT…. the organs are squishing, heart is always contracting and expanding , our trillions uv cells are bouncing around dancing…

SO

when our mind is directed into our feeling our internal body: (thanku moshe feldenkrais for so astutely and acutely understanding this)

our mind is connected to that which is the river of life: the essence that flows through us and gives us life to be.

(even our breath creates movement; expansion of the lungs, the ribs etc, nostrils, our lips flutter like butterfly wings… etc) we are made so so divinely~

sooooo

when our minds are not connected to our self,

the mind connects to a problem or creates one : u SEE , it’s job is analytical, logical, works out things… the mind is great at this and can make up scenarios just for it to get working at what its good at doing ( working out problems).. however…….

the mind iS far more AMAZINGly POTENT when it is trained into sensing, listening, and percieving our self, our moving body, our flowing breath – and connecting to the happy natural thoughts that pop up when we are connected to feeling our NATURAL STATE OF BEING:

WELL and JOYFULL!!!!!!!

yup its ok… let go …

ur fine… just as u

are! abandon your weight, your mind and let

it

sink back down into the earth and your naturally breathing, well, happy body…

ahhhhhhhh TAKE A DEEP BREATH AND CONNECT TO U! and ta dum! ur up there with buddha and jesus christ and the rest of them happy go lucky fellas! i luv those guys! they knew how to connect their minds to their internal bodies  and therefore think natural thoughts like,

” hey i am pretty cool, i can just sit and listen to my breath while the “world” goes to hell!”

or

“god luvs me… hey i and the father are one… hey I AM… therefore i LUV everyone cause we are all connected to this ” I AM” so

we are all brothers and sisters…. lets not judge eachother, lets luv oneanother as ourselves cause were all ONE!”

… doo dooo do do do … and lots of other great thoughts that come up when we are connected to our source.

ILLUMINATING buddha/christ/ lisa/feldenrkais/yogic MOMENT ahahahahahah!:

the problem started in your mind and the “illusion” the problem, can only be fixed where it started….

IN YOUR MIND.

everyone, please, whereveru see a problem in your life or someone elses… go to YOUR MIND and

REPLACE THIS creation of yours with  reconnecting your mind to what is perfectly well and true:

YOUR light-filled, happy, joyfull, healthy, whole, creative, powerful, beautiful

ESSENCE

INSIDE

A MOVING, LUVED

YOU (u are in your body remember? ;)

HAVE A HAPPY HEALTHY GREAT DAY AND GET YOUR MIND BACK INTO YOUR MOVING BODY!

need an idea?  go for a walk, pick up a paint-brush, put on music and dance, go to a dance class, hike a hill, take the stairs, pick up the mop and clean, go skiing, go swimming, go for a run, hug your luved ones, visit an old and or a new friend and talk to each other in animated ways ie. get your whole face moving, feel your lips as u talk, go to the yoga mat, refine your sense and feeling of movement and take up feldenkrais… and just keep the luving flow uv ” I AM”  in tact…

ALIVE INSIDE YOUR GIFT: SPIRIT FEELING AND PERCIEVING ITSELF INSIDE A MOVING BODY! life is so blessed! lalalalla makes me wanna sing and dance!

something to consider:

something to consider:

here is an excerpt from the good ol hickers. luv these people: spreading the word uv luv:

something i think we must all consider:

“It should only be talked about if the talking will make you feel better. It is of no value, ever, to activate and talk about something that doesn’t feel good, because it reactivates it in your vibration; it makes it another point of your point of attraction so you’re less clear.

In other words, when you focus upon the problems of others, you diminish your ability to help them. People believe that you’ve got to focus upon the problem in order to find a solution. And we say, no solution ever comes forth – it’s never inspired; you never recognize it, and you are never able to facilitate or achieve it – from your place of focusing on the problem. They are two entirely different vibrations. If you have someone who has many things going wrong and one thing going right, beat the drum of what’s going right, and let that be your point of attraction. If you focus upon their problems, you achieve vibrational harmony with something other than the Source that gives you solution.”

” Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life’s coming attraction” -Albert Einstein

so use it!  create in your mind what u want to experience, celebrate the amazing feelings this gives u, realize this amazing feeling

is simply the power given to u at birth to have free will and to BE ABLE TO CHOOSE WHAT U LUV

and start creating.  BUT U GOTTA START FROM THE INSIDE…

step 1.  let your imagination tell u who u are… believe me, u know how to use it, if a 3 year old can act and create games, so can a 32 yearold , a 55 year old, a  92 year old… cause whats inside aint got an age.

imagine, feel, breathe, celebrate. take it from there.

Journal Prompt for Week 4 In Love With Me: Getting Good at Self-Love and Self-Acceptance

Journal Prompt for Week 4 In Love With Me: Getting Good at Self-Love and Self-Acceptance

I Am Telling the Truth

By Ronna Detrick

Self-love is something we hear about all the time. And we feel pressure to do it—all the time, perfectly, proficiently. In fact, even this week’s chapter title says “Getting Good at it Self-Love and Self-Acceptance.” But pressure is not consistent with self-love, whether self- or other-imposed. Rather, it comes through grace—and permission, time and patience.

Some of you must have heard the verses before: “Love is patient, love is kind… It keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.” (from 1 Corinthians 13).

This week, practice grace. Give yourself permission. Offer yourself time. Extend yourself patience. These are the nourishment and sustenance of ever-growing self-acceptance and self-love; of telling and living your truth.

First, in writing:

Fill in the blanks. Write for as long as words come. No editing. No censoring. For your eyes only.

(i followed the instructions and filled this out for myself to see only and i was happily suprised! have fun and let whatever comes out come out!!!!)

1) If I extended myself endless patience and kindness, I would feel __________.

2) If I were to let go of my internal record-keeping, the laundry list of all that I’ve done wrong, and all the places in which I feel inferior, sub-par, or less-than, I would feel ____________.

3) If I were to be ever-so still and listen for my own internal voice, the one that existed before the irritating ones took over, I would hear these words: __________.

4) If I were to do or say whatever I wanted, whatever I felt—no ramifications or risks —I would do/say ____________.

These unedited, uncensored words and feelings are your truth.

Second, in words and actions:

Pay attention to the gap between what you’ve written and what you actually do/say; even how others experience  you. Then, slowly and kindly commit to even the smallest of adjustments you can make, right now, to move into the spaciousness and beauty of your truth.

Nothing sweeping or mammoth (necessarily). The slightest shift. A different conversation. A vulnerable act. One tiny, risky move.

Third, in truth:

These steps may seem too tiny to even bother with. Such miniscule, incremental changes… But don’t listen to those voices. They are lying to you. You know the truth. And that truth—your truth—is your path to self-love and self-acceptance.

As you take them, as you walk more and more fully in your truth, self-love and self-acceptance radiate from within.

All of us gasp when you enter the room. And all the voices that ever told you anything different fall silent.

I’m telling the truth.

Actionable Idea for This Week

This is many of the wonderful exercises included in this week’s Full Adventure chapter. This specific one was created for you by writer, coach and therapistJackie Walker.

WRITE: Describe Your Inner Critic

This is one of the exercises Jackie Walker shared with members in our Vision Interview. I reallyLOVED this exercise!

Jackie said:

I have two favorites for negative dialogue, both are well practiced! I like to name the voices, they’re all different and I swear I had a whole clan of Scottish marauders in my head at one time; it was very noisy!

This wee wifey was my favorite—she was called Jeannie. She lived on the moor, wore a tweed skirt which came below her knees, her husband’s kilt socks, and she had a headscarf keeping her wild hair out of the way. It still managed to escape when she got all excitable!

Jeannie would squawk at me about knowing my place in life, about daring to be different. Didn’t I know what happened to people like me, I’d be damned and burned. She was a great Scot!

I used to chat with Jeannie, I’d bring her out onto the desk (or wherever) in front of me and we’d chat. She’d tell me she was just concerned, dearie. I’d ask for more about where her concerns came from and she’d tell me some awful stories. She got used to explaining the problems to me and having a voice and one day she stopped visiting. Her job was done.

Start to name the different voices, give them shape and form, bring them out to talk to, and listen to their concerns. Learn what might be useful and tell them how things are different for you now. Thank them for their help.

Now describe your own inner critic. Give her name a name. Personify her just like Jackie Walker personifies her inner critic as “Jeannie, the Scotswoman.”

the first artist here has a very deep and sorrow-ful yet inspiring response.  here is shawn clark who is graciously allowing me to share his few words on his piece of photography which captures a moment in time where the infinite is given to us through flight:

Sweet Michelle

So, my first love committed suicide in October and a ceremony was held on a cliff in San francisco.  I went back a few days later and was fortunate to capture this beautiful Hawk flying circles above me.  I just know Michelle’s spirit was with her.  She’s always loved Hawks and had a strong love for our native american traditions.  Such a sad loss, but such a beautiful soul who lives on :)

Journal Prompt for Week 3

Self-Portraiture: Rewriting Your Beautiful Story

You have already crossed the threshold, excavated your roots and now you’re ready to paint your self-portrait. In other words, you’re about to delve into your personal stories.

The theme of the 3rd week is “Self-Portraiture: Rewriting Your Beautiful Story.”

Your core story is your personal narrative that is based on the unfiltered ideas you’ve collected and internalized about yourself and the world around you. In Sara Blackthorne’s words, it’s the story that lives at the center of your being, the story that influences every aspect of your life.

At the same time, it is the story that you protect the most, the one you keep to your innermost self and circle of friends. In many ways, your core story is both the mirror and the face reflected.

I thank the three amazing women Sara BlackthorneLaVonne Ellis andJocelyn P. Kelly for contributing to this week’s blog post and the Full Adventure chapter.

How I Found Myself:

A Journey Into the Forest

By Sara Blackthorne

The summer I was nine years old, we moved into the country, onto a plot of land with a small trailer and ten acres of Jack Pine tree. Being a child who already didn’t have many friends, moving into the country meant finding myself further on the outskirts of social circles once school began again in the autumn. But in those few months between the move and September, I discovered the path to my own beautiful reflection.

There wasn’t much stopping me from packing a few books and a journal, a sack lunch and some water, and heading out into the forest day after day after day. I was on the hunt for my spirit. And I was determined to find it.

At the time, I did not know for what I was searching. I only knew that there had to be more than tears and anguish and hatred. I knew that the children in my books didn’t feel the despair that I experienced daily. And they didn’t live with parents who yelled, who hit, who hurt them. But trees—trees couldn’t yell or hit. Trees could only witness, could only be with you.

Sitting among the row upon row of Jack Pine trees, I found the answers to my seeking heart. I learned that witnessing—the silent watching of our actions and adventures—can be done by trees as much as humans.

And I learned the importance of calling on our ancestors, the women who have walked the roads before us, to guide and carry our voices into the future.

TreeMeditation

SARA BLACKTHORNE is a forest-walker, a tree dancer, a writer, and storyteller who is interested in supporting and nurturing your deepest stories to the surface of being. She walks between the worlds of seen and unseen, finding the truth in each of our experiences. The author of two workbooks and countless poems and essays, Sara is now focused on helping you birth your true stories into the world. Want to be witnessed? Drop her note {sara@forestofstories.com} or send her a tweet {@sarablackthorne} or check out A Forest of Stories for more ways to be seen.

Sara Blackthorne says:

“Who are the women in your story, the ancestors, who have walked the path of their own true stories?

Lisa says: each woman in my ancestory has wildly walked her own path, through thick and thin, through hot and cold, my ancestory has boiling latin

blood and intense cold oceanic waves of creation flowing through the stems of this earthly body; my ancestry is madly deeply in luv with life and all that comes from the all=loving, light streaming, dream-realizing giver of all good, the ONE TURNING SOURCE OF LIFE and we are directly ascended into this energy.

How do you find your beautiful reflection in the world?

i and the father are one.  as the mother i know the child is born by three.  the father ,the son and the holy ghost.  i know how to protect the “inner child” so its powerful innocence, its “blind faith” is what parts two sides of the same river, (male/female) and lets what has been kept down, enslaved (free spirit) through and over to the other side where freedom reigns.  this is all kept in my heart where i have had the courage in this wild inner journey of mine to confront and learn the reality of these metaphysical principles and spiritual freedom.  i am profoundly gratefull for this endowing of wisdom upon me.  i do not know why “me?”  but i do know that from when i was a child, i have had an insatiable thirst to know what was “behind” so many “illusions”.  i believed always in the source of happiness, the creative imagination and the power of possibility running through my body and how this was connected to “god”. i prayed everynight with my mom and my brother in italian the “lord’s prayer”  this would put me along with nightly stories read to me by mom, and at times her warm hand under my head, to sleep in a deep way that connected me with the SOURCE…..

i was born a “wild one”.  this has not always been “a piece of cake” but such a minestrone BLESSING!  i have lived a mixing pot of diverse ingredients of goodness.  born into a very traditional italian BEAUTIFUL and CREATIVE, ARTISTIC and MUSICAL family (whom i adore and am extremely loyal to) growing up in a predominantly asian neighborhood, ( i feel half- asian) i have had to learn a juggling act between  firey creative rebellious sensual nature, peaceful zen and  loyal, traditional (which can also be pretty off the wall!) but also rigid, uniform ( i wore one in high-school) community-shared beliefs!  what a balancing act this has been!!!!!!!!!!  but so worth it! this is reality! this is richness in all its ABUNDANCE! singularity in multiplicity!

How do you tend and nurture your core story, as you would tend a tree in the forest?”

i tend towards me through listening to my heart. when i begin to cry tears of joy, i know this is what is calling me home.  i know this luv, this passion, this desire towards what makes me return whole, what gives me the power to release tension, fear, worry, what returns me back to the simple joy of being, i am given my core, my truth, a story if u will, but more importantly my house (my soul) where freedom, luv and faith move towards one another giving me the power of creation.

so quanta grazia vi è in quiete, e quanto la pietà non vi è in esplosione fouco creativo;

So che sto così indefinibile e incredibile che la dea è solo un termine per ciò che siamo tutti come donne;

creatori e in modo del tutto belle che può ispirare anche il più duro, chiuso spietato delle creazioni di Dio

e di farli tornare insieme.

Journal Prompt for Week 2: “Your Roots: Reconnecting with Your Core”

Journal Prompt for Week 2: “Your Roots: Reconnecting with Your Core”

The theme of the 2nd week and our 2nd Chapter is: “Your Roots: Reconnecting with Your Core.”

When we talk about our roots or our core, we actually talk about self-discovery. This is one of my favorite subjects because it’s strongly connected to how we grow and flourish personally and professionally. After all, like Anais Nin once said, “We don’t see things as they are, we see them as we are.”

With this in mind, I joined forces with three amazing women when creating this chapter for you. Here I welcome “Goddess” Leonie DawsonSandi Amorim and Sue Mitchell!

I Knew I Was a Goddess

by Leonie Dawson

Once upon a time, I was adrift. A boat without sails, a star outside of orbit.

In my heart, I knew there was a true north. I knew there was a guiding light. I just didn’t know how to make it. Until one day my life changed.

An indigo-haired woman at my work—the one who laughed loudly in elevators and cuddled strangers and used the word “vagina” with such surity and joy as if it was the most normal thing on earth, the woman who shone like she knew the greatest secret in the world… she invited me in. She gave me her secret. It was a women’s circle.

One ordinary night in suburbia, I found what I had been looking for. And when I walked in that room, smelling sweetly of incense, women of all ages gathered cosily on a leopard print couch, smiling serenely, glowing alight, I thought,

“I am home. This is where I want to be for the rest of my life.” Somehow, sitting around a circle with candles aglow, sharing our stories softly into the night, I remembered that this was what I had been missing.

For all the ages, women have gathered together in circles—in wisdom circles, in comfort circles—to be supported and to be alight. And along the way, we’d forgotten to. We’d forgotten we were great and ancient oaks, deeply rooted to the spirit, to truth, to each other, to ourselves.

Sitting in women’s circles, finding the wise, loving Goddess that lived inside me, I learned to stitch my own sails. I discovered my own orbit, around my heart, around my soul. I made a compass with an arrow pointing at my own true north. I knew I’d never be truly lost again.

Even when the winds of Post Natal Depression roared through my life, threatening to flip my boat over. Even when every part of my life seemed to be dismantling, I clung to my compass.

I knew I was heading home. I knew I was a Goddess.

Your Prompt(s) for This Week

Goddess Leonie says:

“Have you found your soul’s compass yet?

Goddess Lisa says:

 yes i have.  wildly pursuing my path deep deep inside this journey through italy and through my own psychic terrain has given me true compass… i call it desire at times luv, and it is made known through inspired creation.

it lives in the place in my heart where all my luv and dreams are stored.  the magnitude of it’s ability to guide me comes from my willingness to follow them.  they are part of each other.  when i become deafened to them,

my compass disintegrates, returns to the imaterial place where all is possibile but not seen or felt.

when i begin to hear again,

it returns right back into my ears, into my hair, into my face, into my heart, bewteen my legs, it moves through me guiding

me towards natural places, trees, water, music and especially laughter, creativity and connection.  i feel beautiful again.  i am able to moan and bubble like a pond full uv everything strange and dark yet it is all contained in the eyes of the most graceful white and black swan who always knows how creation happens and where the crack through the trees lets the light shine through.  that special place, in light that contains every darkness, is where my compass is always pointed.

What would you like to call into your life?

the highest and greatest, successfull, creative and enlightened collaborations.  musicians that will arrange brilliantly around my original music ( my first album) and opportunities to travel and become recognized internationally for my art;

a spotlight like none other;

a tribal following that lifts and carries my bumble bee practise of creation and pollination of all beauty, health, wealth and authentic goodness…

If the 80-year-old you wrote you a letter, what would she say?

why are u dissapearing everytime a wave comes your way… slipping right under the rocks like t.s. eliot’s prufrock … http://uluvlisa.wordpress.com/2012/01/31/the-love-song-of-j-alfred-prufrock-by-t-s-eliot/

“I should have been a pair of ragged claws/ Scuttling across the floors of silent seas” (73-74).

gorgeous and romantic, but self-sabotaging… hiding your one true light to be massaged by the hands of shadows.

let your good will shine forth my dear child.  find your one tru light-house, and inhabit it.

emit your every passion across many skies from this singular place,

u will guide many sailors home by the sound of your singing soul.

And in what ways are you a goddess?”

in more ways than one or once upon a time.

i know how earthquakes are created and how they shake the core of every ego so that spirit can find the cracks to move through;

i know how compassion can simmer and transform the erupting sparks of rage into the light of true power;

i know how non-judgement is the key to inner peace and shockingly stunning original work;

i know how the gentle touch of an unobtrusive hand shifts an entire nervous system from resistance to recieving;

i know how many tears must be wept to flood dry land so a boat can begin to sail;

i know how much grace there is in stillness, and how much godliness there is in firey creative explosion;

i know i am so indefinable and incredible that goddess is just a term for who we all are as women;

creators and so utterly beautiful we can inspire even the most hardest, closed callous of god’s creations

and make them return whole.
